if you're having trouble with limewire-- you might try Ares.. but it may be a little difficult to find a free download version of it... but if you CAN find it-- it's a good program. I've never had a problem with it.

Don't use P2P.
Virus heaven . Download uTorrent and use ISOHUNT (Google both). But beware all torrent/p2p usage is being heavily watched now and ISPs will be using a 3 strikes policy. x

"frostwire"....works exactly the same as limewire but a lot faster, so you wont have to learn anything...
been using it for 6 months, no problems.

Oh forgot to mention if you're using a mac.. Transmission is by far the beat torrent client I've used. But uTorrent is definately the cleanest one I've ever had the (dis)pleasure of using on windows.

but evidently now how torrents work? Lol
Being close to an exchange will effect your speed on anything you're doing on the webbernets from browsing to downloading. This is why ISP's get so much shit for advertising speeds they can never deliver upon.
Torrent speeds. Other than your max dl speed is effected by how many seeders and leechers are seeding/leeching the torrent at any one time. This is much like other p2p clients like limewire however you are able to download far faster in theory because of the way that bittorrent is peogrammed to distribute a file.
Rule of thumb: when downloading at something. More seeders = way faster speed. Zero seeders = unobtainable file. X

Good advice from Ed, so good, it needed saying three times lol
When i first started torrenting, I didnt have a clue about seeders, many days I had swearing and cursing the PC.

Can I just ask tho, genuinely, is there anybody that has NEVER illegally downloaded summat, or copied summat off their mate, or just generally accquired a movie/song etc without paying for it properly?
I do understand what they're trying to do, and in theory it's a nice idea to stop people nicking stuff and stuffing up sales and whatnot, but honestly the only way I reckon they have of doing that is banning the internet. Coz if they make punishable by death to download stuff, some bright spark will invent summat that means you can't be detected doing it. It just strikes me as being a bit like that rolling the boulder up the hill thing.

Try an HTTP Tunnel or Proxy, that'll make you very hard to detect because you are behind a different server to the one you're actually using on your computer. Your milage may vary, and speed certainly will, and using a proxy will often cost you money, but yes... There are ways of being undetectable, hence why a lot of hackers are hard to catch.
And genuinely yes, I suppose there ARE people who have never obtained something illegaly, but those people are stupid. Just don't go overboard on taking stuff, and then you might want to ask yourself why you're doing it. I used to download quite a lot, and I still do, but the majority of the time I download stuff whilst paying for it through iTunes (Having the iTunes music store on my phone is NOT a good thing - haha). I don't like physical media at all, and figured that's why I download a lot of things. If I buy a CD all I do with it is burn it to my Mac and then well, I dunno where the CD goes... haha.
But now I can get anything on the internets through iTunes and other places. Naice.

now everybodys saying the industry is dead.
and that soon everyone will download illegaly.
Kid rock says download his stuff. Kid Rock: 'Steal Music' | News @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com
Its so messed up at the moment
also a few artists are happy because they feel the labels have been ripping them off, and with free downloads no money goes to anyone
but they encorage you to buy merchandise and go to their shows.
so yea...

didn't lps say in an interview not so long back that they didn't mind people downloading their music free as long as people came to see them at gigs, or was that another band.
I don't understand why ISP's like virgin and bt are sending out warning letters to people who download for free - what's it got to do with them. I've been using limewire for many years now and i've had no problems with it at all and i still buy cd's aswell.
Even duffy the biggest selling artist this year has said she does'nt mind people downloading her music for free.

If his ISP is sending him letters then he is doing a LOT of illegal activity on the internets.
Yeah.

Several people have had letters from ISPs to ask them to stop, but it's only recently have ISPs pledged to strike people off their internets for persistant offenders... as previously ISPs have been reluctant to ban people, as they get £££ every month from them.
