Reduced by nine months, as he admitted to the murder, is young and (I'd assume) is repentant, seems fair. No more though.

But what about the "Goth" that killed a "Chav". Why didn't he get his time reduced?
Age should not have anything to do with it and he got a shorter sentence because he admitted to murder, why should it have been reduced further?

Fair points. I don't know all about it, I was just speaking my mind. These decisions aren't made blindly though.

I know thats the problem. I just feel sorry for the family having to find out that one of the kids that killed their daughter will be out in public sooner than they expected

He's 16 so if he is only given a 16 year sentence then he'll be out by the time he's 32 and that's if they don't reduce it again.
That's not life and while yes 16 years is a long time, i think life should actually mean life. He's taken the life of someone else so why should he be given the chance to live any of his own.

I think its fucking ridiculous. This was a disgusting crime and deserves full punishment! I heard the full 999 call that was made on the evening, a few weeks ago on a BBC report and it practically had me in tears from the horror in the persons voice! The young lad who committed the crime was apparently very cold at the trial and showed no remorse. 32 is far too young for anyone to be released after a crime like this, and I've always been a firm believer of Life For a Life if they can prove it 100%, which they can in this case! As far as I'm concerned, age doesn't even come into this!

Why does the fact that he was young, mean his sentence should be reduced?
So was Sophie, and he took her life away.
Saying sorry, and admitting he did it, doesn't take it away, it doesn't bring her back.
It wasn't just her life that they ended, they destroyed the lives of everyone close to her, and 16 years IMO, doesn't even begin to compensate for that.
Life for a life.

Usually 9 months doesnt seem that much.
But he murdered someone so he should get life, not get let off!
It's ridiculous!

The thing is, it's not like his life will go back to how it was. He'd find it near impossible to get a job or anything of the sort, and would forever be reminded of what he did. It's hardly a let off. In fact, I'd think his life would be worse out of jail, if he's truly sorry. Obviously, if he doesn't give a shit who he's killed then he should be shut up for life. It's not as clear cut as people seem to think.

I appreciate that its your opinion, but no one on here is saying that its clear cut or simple. The fact is that he didn't show any remorse for what he did at the trial and he didn't give a shit who he killed, he should be shut up for life. You have put yourself in the victims family and friends position here. If something like this happened to someone you knew, how would you feel if their murderers sentence was reduced? The guy is 16. If he's old enough to do something this stupid and callous, then he's old enough to face the consequences. Whether his life goes back to normal or not is irrelevant. He will probably still be able to get work when he gets out and he'll probably get married and have kids because he was so young when he committed this barbaric crime. Sophie will never have that chance... fact, not opinion!

Like i said before the guy that killed a "Chav" hasn't had his sentance reduced but this 16 year old has. Both should have the same sentance, which is life and neither should be allowed to have their sentances reduced. They both took a life so they should pay for their crime in prison.

Yeah, fair enough. If he hasn't shown remorse, there's no way he should be let out. It's just not as straight forward as "life for a life" in every case imo. Lots of people are shown too much mercy in this sort of thing though.

i dont think it will be that bad for him when he gets out, when you look at some other cases where people have been given new identities after killing someone, just so they can live their life like nothing happened it just shows that even if you do take someones life it might not mess up your life forever
and to be honest i dont believe anyone can be sorry for killing someone just for a reason like what stereotype they are, and the fact that he killed this girl for just being a goth shows that he didnt care whos life he took
